Pupil Premium Strategy

The Pupil Premium Grant (PPG) is additional funding given to schools to support specific groups of pupils who may be at risk of underachievement. It aims to close the gap in attainment between them and their peers.

The PPG is allocated for pupils who are eligible for Free School Meals or who have been eligible in the last six years. It is also allocated for children who have been Looked After by the Local Authority.

From the start of the 2026 to 2027 academic year, the DfE is delivering an expansion to FSM eligibility to include all pupils from households in receipt of Universal Credit (UC). There will then be 2 categories of free school meals:

  • ‘Targeted FSM’, which continues to be based on the existing £7,400 income threshold; and
  • ‘Expanded FSM’, which will apply to meals only, covering pupils who do not qualify for Targeted FSM, but who are in households in receipt of Universal Credit.

Benefits linked to free school meal eligibility, including pupil premium, will only be available to the Targeted FSM cohort.

In 2026-27 the grant is:

£1550 per pupil for FSM Ever 6 children

£2690 per pupil for children who have been Looked After by the Local Authority for at least one day (PP plus)

The PPG is also allocated for children whose parents currently serve in the armed forces or have in the last four years (we usually only have a small number of eligible children).

The grant is £360 per pupil.

Our PH Military Heroes are pupils from service families who represent all the children who have a  family member in the armed forces. With the support of Mrs Williams (group co-ordinator) the children support each other and work as part of a larger team of Plymouth Schools and also within our Trust.

At Plaistow Hill Primary and Nursery School we ensure that our teaching and learning meets the needs of all pupils and that appropriate provision is made to children who belong to vulnerable groups.

For the financial year 2026-27 we will be spending our PPG as per the tiered model approach
