Badger and Squirrel class

Welcome!

Badger Class is taught by Mr Rollinson and Squirrel class is taught by Miss Mayhew and Mrs Steer.  We are helped by our teaching assistants Mrs Williams, Mrs Jordan and Mrs Carne.

Topics

This year our topics are The Lion King, Winter Wonderland, Let's Explore, Croc and Bird, Just Keep Swimming and Our Ocean City.

Term 1 and 2

In Term 1 our topic will be the Lion King. We will be learning the names of the seas and continents of the world. We will be comparing the landscape and features of African countries to Plymouth and the surrounding areas. In art we will be creating some colourful paintings and we will also be learning about what foods come from Africa and in music we will be exploring rhythm and beat.

In term 2 our topic is Winter Wonderland.

HOME LEARNING

We all know it is very important that the children are reading at home as much as possible and the children are rewarded as 'Reading Champions' if they read at home at least 3 times each week.  In addition to this the children will also receive a pick 'n' mix of activities linked to our topic which they can choose from over the term.  Finally we will send home information on a Friday about the week's learning. This will have information about the maths we have been learning and also the handwriting letter and key word spellings we have been practising.  If you are able to it will really help your child to continue the learning we have done in school at home by practising the maths skill as well as the handwriting and spellings.

OUTDOOR AREA

We are continuing to develop an outside area for the children to use for their learning in Year 1. If you would like to, please send into school some old trainers or wellies which the children can wear when outside. Thank you!

If you have any questions about our learning this term (or anything else) please come and see us.
