PE
Please note we have PE on a Tuesday and Thursday, so please remember to send your child into school dressed in their full PE kit on this day. Please ensure your child has their white t-shirt, black shorts or tracksuit bottoms and black jumper or school jumper. Hair should be tied up and jewellery removed on this day so that they are ready and safe to take part.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Reading
Children should bring in their books and reading diaries every day and are encouraged to read at home at least three times a week. 'Daily reading at home of just 20 minutes a day has a dramatic impact in all areas of learning.'
The reading book your child brings home will be in line with your child's reading ability. The children are assessed regularly and their book levels are set accordingly. RWI books are changed twice weekly to fit the program they are following. Accelerated Reader books are changed when the child has finished their book and taken a quiz.
If they are reading at least three times a week this for 10 weeks they receive a Bronze certificate and a Bronze star badge. When they have achieved this, they will move onto a Silver, gold and then Platinum. Children are awarded their certificates and badges in the celebration assembly on Fridays.
Please try and complete their reading diaries by signing it to acknowledge they have read at home. We can check these in school and then record how often they are reading, but also to ensure books are being quizzed and changed.
READING FOR PLEASURE
Our Library day is Wednesday. Please take the time to enjoy the book borrowed from school and make sure it is returned in time to be swapped out. These books are for enjoyment so may not be at the same level of your child's star reader level.
Homework
For children in Year 4/5, homework will consist of three areas:
-
Spellings
-
Times tables
-
Reading
The children will be given spellings to practice. These spellings are being explicitly taught in class and are linked to the National Curriculum.
In addition to their spellings, the children are asked to complete 20 minutes on Times Table Rockstars (TTRS) to build their confidence and fluency. Please click the link https://play.ttrockstars.com/auth/school (the login details are stapled in the back of their reading champions book)
We all know it is very important that the children are reading at home as much as possible. The children are rewarded as 'Reading Champions' if they read at home at least 3 times each week.
We really value your support at home, and would ask that an adult initials your child's reading champion book to confirm they have read at home. This consistent approach to reading not only increases your child's vocabulary and reading comprehension, but will support in their reading for pleasure.
Dojo points will also be rewarded for competed home learning.
Homework will be sent out on Friday, with the expectation that it is brought back in by Thursday when the children will also complete their weekly spelling test so we can check how they are getting on. Completed spelling tests will be sent home with home learning on the Friday so the children are able to celebrate their success with you at home.
Extra home learning may be given linked to a particular subject learnt during school this week. This could be History, Geography, Science, RE, PSHE or DT.
We really appreciate your support with home learning.
