Early Years Foundation StAGE

Welcome to Foundation Stage!

We have two classes, Rabbit and Hedgehog. Both of these classes are mixed nursery and foundation age children. Hedgehog class is taught by Mrs Edmonds. Rabbit class is taught by Mrs Young and Mrs Smith. Both classes are supported by our experienced teaching assistants Mrs McCrorie, Mrs Asplin, Mrs Marks, Mrs Carne, Miss Palmer, Mrs Cairns and Mrs Ireland.

We work as a unit, allowing the children to move freely around all areas of the Foundation Stage with the children having access to the outside area whatever the weather! We plan a wide range of opportunities for children to learn through fun, hands on experiences in both adult led and child initiated activities. We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum which is made up of 3 Prime areas: Personal, Social & Emotional Development; Communication and Language and Physical Development. There are also 4 specific areas of development: Literacy; Mathematics; Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design.

Children will be given opportunities to learn at their own level and we often follow the children's interests to help us plan fun and exciting activities. We love the outdoors and always plan activities that involve the environment around us. We also have a designated 'Forest School' session which children will have the opportunity to be part of once a term.

Activities and topics are to change due to following the children's interests.

Due to the current Covid 19 pandemic, we have been unable to do the transitions into school and nursery in our normal way. We have produced a PowerPoint so that you can show the children some of the staff and areas around the foundation stage unit so that it is familiar to them- please click on the link below to see it
