Special Educational Needs and

Disability

At Plaistow Hill we aim to identify every child’s needs as they arise and provide teaching and learning that will enable all individuals to achieve their full potential. Where necessary we work with a range of professionals such as speech & language therapists or educational psychologists to ensure we are matching our provision to the needs of the child. Support may be given in school by both a teacher and a teaching assistant and it is very important that we work with you the family too.

In the first instance it is always best to speak to the class teacher if you have a concern. Our named special educational needs coordinator (SENCo) is Mrs Sharon Burnett. Please ask at the office should you wish to make an appointment.

For details about our school's admission arrangement for children with special educational needs, please see our Admission policy which can be viewed on the Admissions page.

In July 2016 we had an SEN audit conducted by the Plymouth Local Authority. In the report we are described as "a highly inclusive school that takes a nurturing approach to providing pupils with SEND...the SENCO has a clear vision for meeting needs which is based on a partnership approach with families". Other highlights included: There is a clear focus on meeting the needs of pupils with SEND through high quality teaching, parent voice is a particular strength and the SENCO has strong relationships with external agencies.
